I have been employed with the California Teachers Association for 26 years, I began my career at the Oakland Education Association, then transferred to the Concord RRC and now in the Governmental Relations Department as a Legislative Assistant. I obtained my Degree from the University of Phoenix in 2018 in Business Management. I am currently CAS President and Secretary of the National Staff Organization. I was also President of the National Black Staff Network from 2015-2018. Union Work is my passion and I truly love what I do for our members. I have a large family with 7 beautiful grandchildren, which I love to spoil and spend time with. When I have a chance to relax, I love to read and cook!
VICE-PRESIDENT Wanda Turner
I have served the union in various capacities. I am currently in my second year as VP. I previously served CAS as Treasurer, Organizing Chair and Co-Chair for over 5 ½ years. In the years prior, I was an Area 3 Representative. I come from a family of unionists. My father was active in CSEA as a staff employee at California State University, Northridge, for many years. Still, at 93 years young, he participates with CSEA Retired Chapter 4, where he was Treasurer for over 10 years. I live in Southern California with my two Pitbull ‘grand-dogs’, MJ and Harley, who are my daily, morning walk companions. In my leisure time, I enjoy Zumba, dancing, crossword puzzles, and fellowshipping with my brothers and sisters at New Horizon Missionary Baptist Church, where the pastor is my eldest brother (my youngest brother also pastors in Riverside County). I believe in service to others and lending a hand to anyone in need when able to do so.
Secretary Sara Vega-Junge
Hi all! I have been with CTA 3 ½ years! I currently serve as CAS Secretary, Chair of the Recognition and Remembrance Committee, member of the GMM committee and Organization Team. I love being part of CAS and working to insure our members are well represented. When I am not working or doing stuff for CAS I am probably volunteering with Girl Scouts. I am a life time member and love everything Girl Scouts does for girls and the community. I currently lead a troop of 40+ girls and I also am the Service Unit Manger for my area which has 20 troops, 200+ girls and 50+ adult volunteers. In my free time my family and I enjoy cheering on our favorite sports teams; the USC Trojans and the Dodgers.
Treasurer Tina Martinez- Najera
I was hired by CTA in 2001 and worked in the Community Outreach department as Secretary to the Dept. Mgr. In 2006, I worked in the Monrovia office as a Field Services Specialist and in 2008 came to work in Region 3 headquarters in Santa Fe Springs. Currently, I serve as your CAS Treasurer, CAS Chair for the CTA Retirement Trust and with the NSO Pension Trust. I also serve on the Budget Committee, GMM Committee and Building New Leaders Committee. A graduate of Cal State University, Los Angeles. I’m excited to be part of the CAS Executive Board. As one of my colleagues so eloquently put it, “We are the ‘Core Four.’” I believe there is strength in numbers, but you need a strong core. “In union there is strength.”—Aesop I am married to Chris Najera. We are a blended family and have been married for 11 years. Combined we have 3 adult children, 1 grandson and a Chihuahua. We currently live in Montebello as caretakers to my 94 year old mother-in-law. I enjoy Zumba, yoga, movies, wine tastings and spending time with family and friends. When we are not too busy with family and work, Chris and I are working on our “Bucket List” seeking adventure around the world. Our latest adventure included walking suspension bridges and taking a nocturnal tour of the Amazon Forest as well as visiting Macchu Picchu in Peru. Always looking forward to the next adventure.
